Working Parents & The Pandemic

THE FAMILIES FIRST CORONAVIRUS RESPONSE ACT (FFCRA)

How it Helps Working Parents

The FFCRA requires employers with less than 500 employees to provide their employees with paid sick leave or expanded family and medical leave for specified reasons related to COVID-19

FFCRA’s Laws Allows Employees Time Off to Care for a Child (under 18 years of age) whose school or child-care provider is closed or unavailable for reasons related to COVID-19

But how much time off may an employee receive for this?

All employees may receive:

Up to two weeks (80 hours) of paid leave (at two-thirds the employee’s regular rate of pay)

Employees who have been employed 30 days or longer may receive:

An additional ten weeks of paid leave (at two-thirds the employee’s regular rate of pay) — so a total of 12 weeks
