How Can I Vote if I Work All Day?

California allows employees who do not have sufficient time outside of working hours to take time off to vote.

Will I lose pay if I take time off to vote?

  • Not necessarily.

  • Employers are required to compensate employees for up to two hours (but no more).

Important to Note:

  • You may be given as much time as necessary to vote

  • Your employer may require time off to be taken only at the beginning or end of the employee's shift

  • If you are aware in advance that you will need time off to vote, you must inform your employer two working days prior to the election
